The mid-week meeting was in jeopardy, Jack & Rhoda Martin had just been told that their preacher couldn't do that night's homegroup meeting in their home. There was only one thing to do - pray and ask God to send someone. In the meantime, Don Double had arrived in Cornwall and was asking God for direction. Yes, you guessed it, there was a knock on Jack and Rhoda's door and it was Don! He informed them that God had led him there and they said "Good, you are our speaker tonight." That is how it started. Jack and Rhoda had a daughter - Heather. The rest, they say is history!
Don and Heather came across many difficulties when they first started out, the main one being that Don was a stranger to Cornwall. The Cornish people had seen many "preachers" come and go and they were expecting the same from Don. However, 43 years they continued, based in Cornwall but travelling the world preaching to the towns, villages and islands of the world.
They were married for 43 years, had five children and a lot of grandchildren! They had many trials along the way. Don had colon cancer and Heather had breast cancer. They have written many books on a variety of subjects, including Healing, Marriage and Family, Guidance, Hurts and a gospel booklet called Five Facts of Life which has been translated into many languagues and is being used throughout the world. The latest book "Course you can!" is the story of Heather's life. It is only available from GNC Bookshop and is receiving encouraging feedback for the inspiration it gives.
On March 13th 2007 Heather was promoted to glory but Don is still as passionate as ever to preach the Gospel and win men and women to Christ and he continues to do this wherever God opens the door.
If you would like Don or other team members to visit you, whether it is to speak at a small house meeting, or a big evangelistic rally, to do Ladies' or Men's meetings, Marriage weekends or pop along for a Sunday morning service, he is open to whatever and wherever God leads him - please get in touch dondouble@gnc.org.uk
